Maintaining commitment to a weight loss strategy is a challenge for many. At the beginning, everything seems so easy to stick to, with both ambition and commitment running high. Then, your motivation takes a hit and you just do not feel like you want to do this anymore and feel like you want to give up. It does not happen to everyone, though. There are some people who are successful at achieving their goals and maintaining their weight loss permanently. How do they manage to accomplish that?

Begin your weight loss journey by clearly outlining your goals. You need to make up your mind and decide if you want to lose weight or just tone your body. Is there a particular weight that you wish to achieve? You can tailor your diet and exercise routine to fit the kind of body you want to have.

Chart your weight loss. Don't get on the scale more than one time a week. If you weigh yourself too often, it can be a detriment to your self-esteem. Keep a ledger that lists all the food you eat, along with the amount of calories consumed. It is imperative to not leave out drinks and snacks! Simply writing down what you eat and drink can prevent you from making poor choices.

Avoid food shopping when you are hungry. If you wait until you're excessively hungry, you're more likely to make unhealthy eating choices, to eat impulsively, or to overeat. Try preparing your meals prior to being hungry and keeping healthy snacks around to avoid temptations. Bring your own lunch to avoid eating out. Home cooking not only benefits your checkbook, but it also allows you to eat things you want that are actually healthy for you.

To be successful in your weight-loss plan, you need to eat right and exercise regularly. Forcing yourself to work out a few days a week will make sure that you are getting the exercise required to reach your goals. If your schedule makes it impossible to hit the gym every day, then find ways to make your regular activities more demanding. Take a stroll through the park, go hiking with your friends, or roller skate with your children. Whatever you choose, it will get you moving in the direction of great health!

Have your friends support you in whatever way they are able. You are more likely to stick to your plans when someone else is rooting for you. Accountability is important in any long-term weight loss plan, and when you involve a friend or family member, you are more likely to succeed. When you feel like you are not motivated, call a buddy for support. They'll likely know just what to say to get you back on track.
