Planning your wedding is the best party you will ever plan. After all, you only say 'I do' once. At some point the romance may be lost when some of the more challenging planning aspects need attention.

So, if the end is out of site and you feel you need some guidance then you're in luck. This essential checklist will help you prioritise your time and take the stress out of organising the wedding:

Your Reception Venue

Picking the wedding venue is obviously a major part of your big day, and not a decision which should be made lightly. When choosing your venue there are some fundamental considerations to take into account:

* Will you hold the ceremony and reception in one place? * If you are going to hold the ceremony in a different location, are you going to provide transport for the guests to get to the reception venue? * If you have a venue in mind, have you discussed with them how many people they can accommodate and are there any other limiting factors? * What is the situation with regards to decorating the venue? Are you permitted or do you have to go with their scheme?* Does the venue offer any picturesque backdrops for the photographs?

The ceremony venue is the first thing your guests will see, so make sure this part of your day goes off without a hitch. Establishing exactly how the day will run early on in the planning process will help eliminate any last minute hitches.

Choosing the Wedding Dress

Deciding on a dress perhaps comes joint first with choosing the wedding venue. Many women have an idea of their perfect dress well before it is time to go shopping for it.

* Have you got time and room in the budget for any dress alterations? * Does the dress need to be transported anywhere? Have you looked into the options for transport? * Have you considered the accessories you want to go with your dress? * Think about the temperature of the time of year or where you are getting married. * Consider your footwear. It needs to be comfortable and stylish as it will be a long day and you will surely be wanting to dance at the end of it.

When your groom and guests see you for the first time, you want a dress that has that 'wow' factor. You want to look your best and not be uncomfortable so take the time to find the right dress as this could take a while.

Your Guest List

When you get married, you want to share your special day with your friends and family. When spaces are limited it can be stressful trying to finalize the list. Here are some points to take into account:

* Above all, the capacity of the venue will dictate how many people you can invite, so do you know what this figure is? * How much will it cost you to feed all of these guests? * Do you want your day to be lavish and intimate? * Can you compromise on the guests to leave off the list?

It is not easy leaving relatives or friends off your wedding guest list. But you should always remember that it is your day and you should do what makes you both happy.

If you start planning well in advance and stick to a checklist, it should help take the stress out of wedding planning. On the contrary, it is a time that should be enjoyed by all involved. Remember to delegate, it is easy to take it all upon yourselves to organise but this can be made more enjoyable if the jobs are shared around.
